All guests who book budget tours stay in these lodges and all have interacted with say the budget accommodation facilities are worth the cost. When you chose rightly your budget lodges , which is only possible after making a very go research including the lodge reviews . Don’t use new lodges where no one has ever tasted the lodge services and facilities to avoid disappointments of meals, the room service or other facilities. Sleeping in cheap accommodation will help you save and also spend less as planned initially before embarking on your trip. Bargaining is the order of the day since getting the best price in Africa depends on your bargaining power. Take a look at some cheap lodges/hotels in Rwanda Okapi hotel, Impala hotel, Gloria hotel, Silver Motel, Gorilla city centre hotel, kinigi guest house, Step town hotel, Labana star hotel, Gorilla lake view hotel among others.

Ensure that you use the cheapest transport option possible depending on where you want to go. Rwanda has many cheap transport means of transport, public taxi’s/ bus coaches, cheap car hire services. Some times its good to walk some distances where possible and save. If you want to transfer to another city or to any tourist destination, always inquire from your lodge of residence for details. However no need for this if you traveling around on a tailor made trip with all arrangements made by a tour operator Remember to take care of all your properties especially the travel bag though the country security is good but you never know someone might take off with your luggage which may disorganize your travel plans.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE- RWANDA PERSPECTIVE

PEOPLE AND CULTURE- RWANDA PERSPECTIVEPeople and Culture the Rwanda perspective

As a young child, i was often fascinated by the life style and traditions around me Thanks God the level of modernity was abit more conservative in the eighty’s (1980’s) compared to the current fast tracking era of today. However i always keep in touch to understand people and their cultures in all my walks of life for it fulfills my purpose of Good Living in my travel and adventurous life style.

Rwanda if you happen not to know it is a warm hospitable landlocked country bordered by Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and DR Congo in East Africa though often remembered by the mention of the Genocide tragedy But interesting to Note, Rwandans did pick up their pieces and are more focused on their future though lessons can be drawn from the past for a better tomorrow.

Though no sight of kingdom-ship after the revolutions, people still recite past events and their traditional heritages in a manner that’s is so touching that you might assume their lived in their historical events though this is further complimented by the heritage and cultural sites preservation’s in various parts of Rwanda and these are a must visit when you happen to drop by.

  • Butare, the Cultural Heartbeat: Its the second city to Kigali and its considered to be the intellectual and cultural pulse of Rwanda. It features the National Museum, which is considered by many to offer East Africa’s finest Ethnographic collection. close by is also Rwanda’s top tourism destination, the Royal Palace of Nyanza.
  • Royal Palace at Nyanza: An enormous woven dome, the Royal Palace at Nyanza (Nyabisunu) was once the court of Rwanda’d Mwami (King) who resided there along with his colourful cast of courtiers, his Royal Intore dancers, Soothsayers, Magicians, Worriors, Actors and Musicians. Now the palace is a museum offering stunning displays of Intore dance.
  • The Intore Dancers: Traditionally the sons of the Kings noblemen the Intore (Finest) dancers were originally based at his court in Nyanza where they performed for his pleasure. At that time their dances depicted only war but today , clad in leopard skins and Columbus Monkay capes with bells around their ankles, they perform a series of Rhythmic pieces with the most famous one being the “Crane dance”.

Rwanda has a rich tradition of celebrations involving music and dance often backed by an orchestra of drums with up to nine (9) players providing the beat. A set of nine drums typically has a soprano, tenor, alto, two baritones, two base and two double base mix. You wont escape the traditional folk songs in worship houses/ churches either.

Though over two thirds are christians mainly catholics with small evangelical churches becoming popular of late, Rwandans still hold to their traditional beliefs. These centre around “Imana” the supreme being. People often hold informal ceremonies asking for the Imana Blessing.

However During your visit besides the cultures tours, visit the Volcanoes National Park to trek the Gorilla’s, Nyangwe National Park suitable for primate tracking and bird safaris and note this is one of the oldest forest on earth dating back to before the last ice age, Akagera National Park for game viewing and birding safaris and Kigali city the city of life with a lot to offer day or night with a touchy genocide memorial in the city to envision what really happened during the dark ages of Rwanda existence!

The Do & Don’ts while on a Wild Excursion/Game Drive

A safari is an essential element to a memorable holiday in Africa. Make sure that you are packing correctly to get the most out of your adventure. While booking a wildlife Africa safari, holiday it is extremely important to follow certain rules and regulations which tend to spoil the nature’s beauty of the wildlife parks /jungle environment.
Do’s
Right-Dressing:
Always put on clothes which cover the arms and legs so that if one comes in contact with insects or wild animals, he does not catch any allergy. Wearing layers of clothing is also an excellent idea.
Blend your clothes with nature:
The best way to get close to the wildlife is to blend in with your surroundings as much as possible by going natural. Wear greens, browns and khakis so as to not attract unnecessary attention. For wild life Africa Safari Holidays, khaki is the recommended colour. But don’t bring bright-coloured clothing or busy patterns. This will draw attention to you and scare off the wildlife.
Stay Calm & in right company:
Always listen to your driver guide since they are nationals who know all the corners of the area visited. If you using camping accommodation zip up your tent and never take food into it. Animals are used to vehicles;, but don’t be noisy or make sudden movements during the game drive and after, Stay inside the vehicle (ask your driver or guide if you need to make a “bush stop, don’t walk around at night if you do make sure you are escorted by the lodge/camp guards. Obey the safety rules in your camp or lodge in order to have a peaceful enjoyable stay.

Pack Light for Easy & flexible movements:
Packing light is important, only pack what you need inside the jungle. Jungle safaris can sometimes be tiring; do not carry anything, which is absolutely not required since sometimes walking with heavy language becomes a problem and quite tiresome. Still do not forget to carry sunhats, sunglasses and sunscreen to keep you safe from sun rays and sunburns. Wear covered comfortable shoes along with socks since wearing exposing footwear might be a bad idea.
Medical aid:
If any one of you is allergic to dust or animal fur, do not forget to carry your medication since it’s a must you will need it for your trip to be successful.
Other Necessary Items include Raincoat, mosquito repellant, antiseptic creams, water bottle, band-aids, a small torch, first-aid kit, personal hygiene products and similar kind of items.
DON’TS
No Feeding Animals:
Restrict yourself from feeding animals. Their behavior cannot be predicted and this might prove to be harmful for you or for them though some animals wait for eats from guests to their natural habitats especially the Chimpanzees.
Avoid Littering:
The jungle is home to the wild animals, thus, it is best that you do not litter your garbage in the animals home. We advise you to keep your garbage in the tour van until you get to a right place (rubbish pit) where it can be dumped.
Closeness to Animals is Harmful:
Do not get too close to animals in order to observe them closely. Respect the park/jungle rules as you explorer the natural beauty. They can either get scared or can attract them towards you. Do not try to be too friendly with the wild in the jungle.
No Loud Talks:
The forest is no place for long talks or conversation. Keep your talks limited and that too in low tones. Remain reserved as you watch animals play in their natural habitats.
Fire Alert:
Stay away from using any combustible substances during your jungle safari.
Cell phone Nuisance:
It is advisable to keep your cell phones in your hotel room or if you are carrying them with you inside the jungle, keep them switched off or on silent mode since some cell phone ringtones are too loud and attract great attention.
Do not agitate:
Please remember that you are inside the jungle to explore the animals, while they are inside their house. Do not agitate them by throwing stones at them or doing antics to attract them. Show Consideration for Others and never hut their feelings as you discover the world and its culture.

Gorilla/ Primates Trekking Tips!

Have You Ever Encounter any Primates/Gorilla?, Well to have a wonderful experience, Monitor the Following:

We are living in an amazing world that has so many amazing creatures, places worth visiting. In Africa Gorillas are the largest of the great apes and share 97% of their biology with human beings. A gorilla’s DNA is 97% – 98% identical to that of humans, so is not surprising that their name actually derives from the Greek word ‘Gorillai’ which literally means a ‘tribe of hairy women’. In fact the Gorilla is the next closest living relative to humans after the two chimpanzee species.
There are some things that look almost too good to be true. The colorful and picturesque, gorgeous scenery, and seemingly blissful landscapes of Gorilla trekking is an unforgettable, life-changing safari experience that can be taken in Africa’s most spectacular rainforests of Volcanoes, Bwindi, Mgahinga National park.

  • Tracking takes place in altitudes of about 2500 meters above sea level. So trackers are advised to take their time and be ready for the great days adventure .The reporting time for briefing and registration at the National park head quarter gate is at 8.00 am local time in the morning.
  • It is advisable before the gorilla trekking, to have a minimum physical preparation and fitness. To those who feel need help during the Gorilla tracking session, you can hire a “porter” at the starting of the trekking, who will carry for you the rucksack with water and other equipment so that you can walk free and easier. Porters are available for hire from the park briefing point. However, in case of any physical disability and walking difficulties, there are special solutions, including hiring a special service of a stretcher with porters and this can make the dream of seeing the gorillas a reality in any Gorilla park visited. Though the time spend in the forest is unpredictable always between 2-8 hours.
  • You will need Strong water proof walking boots and long socks which are comfortable for a mountain tropical forest (remember that one of the most common situations is to find the red ants along the trail), outfit with adapted colors for wildlife observation , rain gear, a few long-sleeve shirts, slippers, sweater for cool evenings, sun protection, hat, sunglasses, sun cream, video/photo camera, a 200 mm or longer lens is very useful, reserve batteries, films and a torch, insect repellants, binoculars, gloves to grip vegetation and it are also best to have different layers of clothes since the temperatures tend to change.
  • All Gorilla parks are well planned and unmistakably structured, with limited guest numbers to 8 people per trekking group each day. Currently, there are several mountain gorilla groups habituated, therefore a maximum of 96 gorilla trekking permits are offered each day in both Uganda and Rwanda. The Permits go for US$750 per individual per visit in Rwanda, US$600 in Bwindi & Mgahinga per permit per visit per day. But if you book your Gorilla permit in April, May and November you get a discounted permits (promotional permit prices) at a cost of US$350 only.
We arrange gorilla safari packages that take you to all Gorilla rain forests in Rwanda, Uganda and Congo to see the giant apes. You can combine your gorilla trip with wildlife sightseeing in the various national parks in Rwanda,(The land of great views and scenery), Uganda(The Pearl of Africa), Kenya (The land with great wildlife Masai Mara), Tanzania (The land full of Adventure). While we have arranged some packages for you, we can organize a trip based on your time, budget and preference.

Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda/Uganda

Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Rainforest:

We recommend Rwanda, Uganda for mountain gorillas and Republic of Congo for lowland gorillas. With only about 700 mountain gorillas left in the world, seeing them in the wild is something only a few people will ever have the chance to experience. Book a gorilla tour and be part of the great adventure in the wild in either either Uganda or Rwanda is one of Africa’s most memorable wildlife encounters.

The Gorilla Highlands area is defined by towering dormant volcanoes and a mysterious rainforest with many pretty crater lakes thrown in as bonus that resulted from the long ago volcanic activities.
