It is essential to understand the scope of the genocide that took place in 1994 when almost a million Rwandans mainly ethnic Tutsi were killed in 100 days. An impressive display still exists in memory of all the lives of the people of Rwanda. Genocide sites in Rwanda are Gisozi, Murambi, Nyamata, Ntarama, Bisesero, Nyanza and Nyarabuye. These centers are well set out and very moving in its descriptions of what happened. Be prepared to leave the center with tears in your eyes.
However, the museum is part of the genocide centers and its free of charge, but you can pay $10 US for a self-guided audio tour. The museum does a great job of putting faces and voices to such a tragic event. The last room will leave you heartbroken as you see walls of actual pictures of hundreds of children BUT the café is mostly just a relaxing place to sit down. The food and service is exactly what one needs.
